October 9, 2020, TCD Design Studio participated in Craft Ukrainian Distillers & Vendor, the All-Ukrainian Forum-exhibition at the invitation of the Ukrainian Craft Distillers Association.

Our goal was to demonstrate the opportunities that open up prospects for the craft industry to promote their brands. The main idea was to create its own unique corporate identity in promoting a strong product at the market at the outset. And, of course, the most important thing we stressed to the forum participants’ attention was why we shouldn’t save on design.

Our presentation aroused genuine interest in the public. The craft manufacturers asked lots of practical questions during the presentation. In general, the conversation looked like a lively and relaxed dialogue.

Craft manufacturers were actively interested in the label manufacturing process, technological features, special effects, and label materials. We paid great attention to global design trends for the strong craft industry and touched upon the history and successful development of craft brands in Poland, the USA, and Georgia.

We discussed problems that a manufacturer faces when he just starts thinking about his brand, which paths to go, and why design shouldn’t be cheap.

Perhaps, every brand can be successful. The major thing is to choose the right path of its development and stages for subsequent upgrades from the very beginning. Identity and good labeling are important right from the start. The brand’s readable font, original graphics, a sonorous name, color scheme – all of these features will help a novice crafter not to get lost in a competitive environment.

A cheap and ill-conceived label can alienate a potential buyer and nullify all the efforts of the manufacturer no matter how high-quality and original the Whiskey, Calvados, or Gin he has produced. The manufacturer runs the risk of a way out of the market without financing the design and the label.
